TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio — The family, friends, and community of 73-year-old James H. Goodmote Jr. of Rootstown are mourning his death following a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon in Warren Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on State Route 212, just east of County Road 86, also known as Tabor Ridge Road.

What Happened

Investigators reported that James was traveling eastbound on State Route 212 on a 2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle.

At the same time, a 2006 Honda Civic traveling westbound was driven by 32-year-old Corey J.M. Fisher of Dover. According to the Highway Patrol, the Honda crossed the center line and collided with James and his motorcycle.

Following the impact, both vehicles traveled toward opposite sides of the roadway. The Honda left the roadway on the left side and struck the face of a guardrail. James and his motorcycle traveled off the right side of the road, struck another guardrail, and James subsequently slid down an embankment.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but James suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.

Other Driver Seriously Injured

Fisher was seriously injured in the collision and was transported by Smith Ambulance to Aultman Hospital for treatment.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Fisher was not wearing a seat belt and that impairment is believed to have been a contributing factor. The circumstances remain under investigation, and any additional findings will depend on the completion of the official investigation.

Several agencies assisted at the crash scene, including the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments, Smith Ambulance, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Keith’s Towing, and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.

Investigation Continues

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Investigators are expected to review the available evidence and determine the factors that contributed to the crash.

No additional conclusions should be drawn beyond the information officially released by authorities.
