Henry Herbert Greenwood Obituary, CLATSOP COUNTY, Oregon Death — Community Mourns After Fatal Highway 26 Crash

CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. — Henry Herbert Greenwood, 77, of Portland, Oregon, has died following a serious multi-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 26 in Clatsop County on Friday evening, August 28, 2026. His passing has left family members, friends, and those who knew him mourning the loss of a life that touched many over the years.

According to information released by the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. near milepost 24. Investigators said Greenwood was traveling eastbound in a gray Honda Fit when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes. The reason the vehicle crossed the centerline remains under investigation.

The Honda first sideswiped a westbound black Tesla Model S operated by 56-year-old Tomislave Lakovic of Portland before continuing into a head-on collision with a westbound black Toyota Tacoma driven by 30-year-old Samantha Reanne Martindale of Molalla. The collision then involved additional vehicles, including an eastbound black Volkswagen Golf and an eastbound Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Greenwood sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by Life Flight to a Portland-area hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.

A passenger traveling with Greenwood in the Honda was also transported by air to a Portland-area hospital with serious injuries.

Other individuals involved in the crash were also affected. Martindale was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, while four passengers in the Toyota Tacoma received medical care for injuries ranging from minor to serious. The driver of the Tesla and two passengers inside that vehicle were not injured.

The Volkswagen Golf was driven by 35-year-old Brandon J. Troost of Portland. Troost and a passenger reported minor injuries but declined hospital transportation. The driver of the Ford F-350, 51-year-old Scott Michael Harrington of Hillsboro, was not injured.

The highway was impacted for approximately five hours as emergency crews responded, assisted those involved, secured the area, and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Multiple agencies assisted, including Medix Ambulance Service, Hamlet Rural Fire Protection District, Banks Fire District, Elsie Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

As investigators continue reviewing the events leading to the crash, Henry Herbert Greenwood’s family and loved ones are left grieving an unexpected loss. His life will be remembered beyond the tragic circumstances of his death, through the memories, relationships, and experiences he shared with those around him.
